Bamboo Frequently Asked Questions

These should help you out

  1. Where is the Bamboo grown?
Our bamboo grows in the area designated by China as the "Bamboo Region" in South East Asia. Bamboo grows naturally in the wild, and is also cultivated. It has been usedfor centuries for a variety of purposes:
    • construction of houses
    • bamboo flooring
    • bamboo roofing
    • bamboo furniture
    • bamboo fencing
  2. Bamboo Buddy - Liven up your home with Bamboo FencingWhat type of Bamboo does Bamboo Buddy use?
We use Tonkin bamboo, the strongest bamboo available. It is used in construction in the region. It is considered stronger than steel.
  3. Is it straight?
Yes - we have a special process in which the bamboo is straightened. Since it is a natural product, gaps still exist but are minimized (see photos)
  4. How thick is it?
The bamboo is roughly 5/8" in diameter. Due to the fact that this is a natural product individual pole sizes may vary.
  5. How is the fence held together?
Five to seven wires hold fence together. The wire goes throughout the middle of each bamboo, it's not wrapped around the outside; this provides for a much more aesthetic look.
  6. What type of wire is used?
    All our wires are galvanized
  7. In which environment is it best to use the bamboo?
Bamboo grows in the wild so it works great both outdoors and indoors.
  8. Is it lacquered?
Yes, it is! Unlike a majority of our competition our bamboo fencing is lacquered to enhance its luster and life.
  9. Is it environmentally friendly?
Absolutely. Bamboo is in the grass family. It's one of the fastest-growing plants in the world and grows naturally, without requiring extra water or fertilizer. Regeneration is much quicker than trees.
  10. Is it easy to install?
Definitely! This is a fun and easy Saturday project... Please see our how to install section
  11. How do I become a distributor?
We are always looking for enterprising entrepreneurs please check our distributor page or call us at 877 BAM-BDDY ( 877 226 2339 )
  12. Is there a minimum purchase?
However big or little your project, we would be happy to help you.
  13. How do you keep your cost so low?
We offer the best product at the best prices because we have very low overhead and do everything to keep our operating expenses low. We sell right out of the container - we have no retail facility. We ship from the West coast.
  14. How durable is this fencing?
Our Bamboo is known as Tonkin cane, or tea stick bamboo. It has been used in scaffolding, piping, furniture, poles, construction components and other such applications.
  15. What is the longevity of the bamboo?
Bamboo can last for 20 years or longer. It weathers to a silvery gray without treatment when subject to sunlight. In northern latitudes this can take years. In southern latitudes, it can occur in one season. Weathering does not destroy the structural integrity. Many folks like the gray natural look. To keep the natural bamboo color, we suggest applying a clear UV resistant stain (water-proofing stain used for decks).
  16. As for the fencing, if I need to cut it, what is the best tool to use?
All you need is a small-tooth saw; in a circular saw, a plywood blade works the best.
  17. Is it possible to cut the width smaller to fit narrower sections?
The width of the fence can be modified by removing individual poles and then bending the wire back to secure the remaining strands. This very easy to do.
  18. 18. I will be using this product to cover an existing chain link fence which already has aluminum poles, what will I use to attach the bamboo?
See "How to Install." The only tools required are a set of pliers and some wire or zip ties.
